New Treasure at the ResoArt Villa – The Zsolnay Vase Returns Home
The ResoArt Villa is proud to welcome a historic treasure back to Hungary: the monumental Zsolnay vase by Apáti Abt Sándor. First unveiled at the 1906 Milan World Exhibition, this extraordinary Art Nouveau creation now forms part of the Zsolnay exhibition’s Secessionist room in Budapest. With its luminous eosin glaze and poetic symbolism, the vase represents both a triumph of Hungarian craftsmanship and the Villa’s ongoing mission to honour the legacy of Zsolnay ceramics.
A remarkable new masterpiece has joined the collection of the ResoArt Villa: the magnificent Zsolnay vase, a true icon of Hungarian Art Nouveau ceramics. Created in 1905 by Apáti Abt Sándor, one of the Zsolnay manufactory’s most talented artists, this 120-centimetre-tall, nearly 100-kilogram eosin-glazed pyrogarnite vase represents the very pinnacle of early 20th-century craftsmanship and artistic innovation. Once admired at the 1906 Milan World Exhibition, this legendary piece can now be viewed once again in Budapest, at the ResoArt Villa.
The Zsolnay vase has been placed in the Art Nouveau room of the Zsolnay exhibition at the ResoArt Villa, highlighting its significance within a broader context rather than as a standalone feature. The sculptural composition depicts graceful female figures dancing around a pomegranate tree — a timeless symbol of fertility, love, and abundance. This poetic motif captures the essence of Hungarian Secessionist art, blending symbolism and sensuality in perfect harmony, just as the Art Nouveau movement sought to unite beauty, nature, and craftsmanship.
As one of the Zsolnay manufactory’s most sophisticated creations, this eosin-glazed Zsolnay vase stands as a symbol of artistic rebirth and innovation. The exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience the brilliance of Zsolnay ceramics, which once captivated audiences across Europe with their iridescent colours and exquisite forms.
Through this unique acquisition, the ResoArt Villa continues its mission not only to preserve and celebrate Hungary’s Art Nouveau legacy, but also to safeguard the artistic heritage of the Zsolnay manufactory itself — inviting art lovers to rediscover the splendour of an era where design, craftsmanship, and imagination intertwined to create works of timeless beauty.
