András Szabó

businessman, collector and patron

The owner of the biggest private Zsolnay collection of Budapest has had quite the career. Having obtained a degree as a production engineer and welding engineer, András Szabó left the public business sector to start his own journey. After the collapse of Communism in Hungary, he was one of the first entrepreneurs to found his own business, Resonator Ltd where he is to date both the majority shareholder and the Executive Director.

He overcame a number of professional risks and challenges and helped many companies find their way out of difficult situations. His company soon became a major player in the areas of machinery engineering as well as property development.

He made use of his success in business by the acquisition and meticulous renovation of one of the true gems of the Avenue of City Park (Városligeti Fasor in Hungarian), the villa designed by Albert Kőrössy. This is where he brought to life the Kőrössy Szalon which was meant to introduce the different branches of art to the public as well as provide a venue for networking all the while enriching one of the largest private Zsolnay collections of Hungary.

Art Collection

The displayed collection bears on it the features of the Creator’s artistic initiative as well as his freedom of choice guided by his own interest and taste.  It is also perfect for shedding light on the success story of the Zsolnay family and showing how their  talent and diligence helped them make their brand world famous.

András Szabó has never sold even one piece from his beloved collection. He cherishes every item and keeps expanding his collection which he now decided to make available to the public.

“I was raised to cherish and try to save whatever is valuable. I believe that the world becomes a better, more enlightened and civilized place with people learning, reading, educating themselves, knowing their own culture and history. I think one can not become a successful entrepreneur without a sense of social calling or as it is nowadays so fashionably called ‘social responsibility’.”

The Creation of the Kőrössy Szalon

The ResoArt Szalon, a private club, was created with a constructive intention to give space to a variety of high standard events thus reviving the traditions of the area which was once so famous for its lively and elegant events. We organise theatre nights, talks and special musical events for those open to a closer encounter with art, while meeting and networking with the like minded. I try to create events where not only are guests given the chance to meet and mingle but young performers are also given the opportunity to show their talent. Amongst our guests we welcomed Zorán-Hungarian guitarist, singer and composer, Tamás Vásáry pianist and conductor, Andrea Vigh harp player and Rector of the Hungarian Music Academy, Eszter Horgas flute player, Péter Sárik and Krisztián Oláh jazz pianists and György Lakatos bassoon player.
Géza D. Hegedűs actor and director, Pál Mácsai actor, director, managing director and István Hirtling actor have also performed at the salon a number of times.
